ML - top tier GBS© of NIFTY Media companies

release date - May 08, 2020

WIth a 20 per cent composite Top Tier Gender Balance, NIFTY Media companies are WAKING UP  (a step better than the NIFTY 50 that was still SNOOZING)

  • Not a single overall BALANCED company on the NIfty Media Index but the overall Top Tier Gender Balance is at least 10% higher than that of NIFTY 50

  • While progress on Gender Balance remains fragile with majority of companies on the Nifty Media Index still showing a low Gender Balance on the Leadership Team, the fact that about 35 percent companies achieved the STRIVING rank, strengthening of Gender Balance is possible with additional effort in the medium term

  • Only ONE out of 28 top positions (MD/CEO and Board Chair) is held by a woman while male leaders occupy remaining positions (Request Access to the RSquare Directory of Experts & Leaders for information on Leaders - women & men in the media & entertainment industry)

  • With an overall 22 per cent Gender Balance NIFTY Media Boards have a lot of ground to cover yet. Almost 43% companies on the list are WAKING UP on Gender Balance while 28.5 percent companies are still SNOOZING with an average of a poor 8 per cent Gender Balance on their Boards

NIFTY50 Vs NIFTY Media

In December 2019, we had released the NIFTY50 Gender Balance Scorecard that apart from other insights also showed that the media & entertainment industry in India was (along with the construction industry) lagging behind most of the other sectors in terms of gender balance across its top tier. In the section below we present a comparison between the NIFTY Media on NIFTY 50 in the 3 core aspects that the Top Tier GB looks at - the balance on Boards, the leadership team and the composite Top Tier

while companies on both Nifty50 & Nifty Media are far from  Balanced
Nifty Media is WAKING UP compared to a SNOOZING Nifty50

NIFTY Media reflects similar Board Balance as NIFTY 50

Nifty Media has a median LT Gender Balance of 0.21 compared to a 0.04 median LT GB SCore of NIFTY 50

Nifty50 Top Tier GB Score (median) 0.09 compared to 0.19 of the NIFTY Media

Apart from Balance on Boards, NIFTY Media does better than NIFTY 50 on Top Tier Gender Balance with a sharp difference of close to 17% on Leadership Team Gender Balance.
